The role of a video editor explained by a post-production company

Managing a post-production company is a giant task in itself, many professionals are involved in sync with each other to make it work smoothly. Every role in video production is immensely crucial, lack of involvement of any department can lead to unsatisfactory or even pathetic results. One such role that the whole of a production company is hugely dependent on, is of the editors.

But what exactly does a video editor do? Let's find out;

video editors are the craftsmen who with their talent create magical moving images.

Editor shapes a story
Telling a story is the director's or writer's job, right? Well to some extent, yes, but to shape a coherent story into a masterpiece by joining different clips is the editor’s main job. The writer's job is to write the story, and the director's job is to shoot what the writer has written and guide the editor throughout post-production,  but it’s the video editor who actually, picks each footage and brings them together to make a sensible story according to the director’s vision.
A post-production company is highly dependent on editors
Editing comes under the post-production process, one of the major and extremely crucial jobs, where you must not go wrong. Not just assembling the footage or creating rough cuts ends a video editor’s job, adding visual effects, sound effects, graphics, and animation also come under the editor’s watch. After putting all the elements together he must make sure all the elements are in sync and are working smoothly.
Assembles all the footage
While producing quality videos or content a lot of raw footage is shot, compiling all the footage together and putting them in a sequence to give it an organized look. Editors are highly skilled and efficient professionals who generally work under tight schedules. It indeed is one of the most challenging tasks but for editors, it is their daily routine.
Cutting the footage
Initially, when a project comes to a video editor in a post-production company, they usually are given a list of cuts to be done by the directors. However, it is their skill and experience through which they ensure that the cut is made in such a way that the sequence feels perfectly smooth. The sequence is then presented to the director or the producer who then gives their insights and the editors refine the video accordingly.
Editors play different roles in a post-production company
Not every post-production company has a big team with many people involved. Many times, a team is so small that a single person has to perform various roles. Editors are masters of their skills and know how to manage work in stressful situations, this skill comes in handy when they have to perform more than one role in the production process.
Video editing is a tough yet creative job and video editors are the craftsmen who with their talent create marvelous moving images. They are confident professionals who are very underrated and often underappreciated even after the hard work they do. Nevertheless, their role and importance in creating content remain paramount.
